Caspian Beard

Caspian Beard is a double major in Music and Biology from Cumming, Georgia. He also serves as the percussion section leader in the Wind Ensemble and plays drums for the jazz band, steel band and drumline with Professor John David. In his free time, Caspian loves to watch movies, play drums and throw the frisbee with his friends. His favorite part of the writing process is researching and finding ways to connect the essay topic to any of his interests. Caspian took Haunted House Fiction with Dr. Christopher Diller.

Hope Carter

Hope Carter is an English major from Rydal, Georgia (but technically Burlington, North Carolina if you ask her). She loves getting distracted in the research for any essay or assignment over other parts of the process, but she enjoys assisting in structuring ideas prior to writing as well. Her past times include accidentally taking longer-than-intended naps, writing stories of her own, and obsessing over anything Trixie Mattel does. She took RHW102 with Dr. Celeste.

Emma Cromer

Emma Cromer is a dual major in History and Spanish from Knoxville, Tennessee. She loves watching movies, game nights with friends, going on hikes and baking. Her favorite parts of the writing process are thesis development, outlining major points and research.

Michael Berry

Michael Berry is a Creative Writing major with minors in German and Psychology. He is a massive nerd, readily committing himself to multiple hour-long board games and TTRPGs. His favorite part of the writing process is cleaning things up at the sentence level. Michael took RHW with Professor King (formerly Mullins). 

Jessica Ford

Jessica Ford is a Psychology major from Athens, Georgia. She loves creative writing and theatre. She loves contemporary fiction, and her favorite book is The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien. Her favorite part of the writing process is finding the perfect synonym to replace the word you used too many times in your essay. She took RHW 102 with Professor King (formerly Mullins).

Kontessa Joseph

Kontessa Joseph is a Communications major with a French Minor. She loves anything creative, and you can find her writing, drawing, or curling up with a good book on her spare time. Some of her favorite steps of the writing process includes brainstorming and outlining because these help put thoughts onto paper. Kontessa had Professor King (formerly Mullins) for RHW 102.

Noah Koch

Noah Koch is a dual degree engineering major with a mathematics minor, and a member of the men’s tennis team. He enjoys hanging out with friends, reading, playing video games, and building giant LEGO sets. His favorite parts of the writing process are thesis development, brainstorming, and research. Noah took RHW 102 with Dr. Donnelly.

Gabriel L’Heureux

Gabriel L’Heureux is an English and Creative Writing double major with a minor in women's and Gender Studies. He has lived in Georgia for several years but has a soft spot for his childhood home in Illinois. He loves spending time with friends and family, and he also loves reading and listening to music. His favorite part of the writing process is coming up with ideas and putting pen to paper, or, in most cases, hand to keyboard. Gabriel took RHW 102 with Dr. Jack Vespa.

Peter Merrill

Peter Merrill is an English major and History minor from Atlanta, Georgia. In his free time, he enjoys creative writing, reading, and learning Welsh. His favorite part of the writing process is writing theses and figuring out the best way to structure arguments. He took RHW 102 with Dr. Vespa.

Mary Claire Page

Mary Claire Page is a theatre major from Cullman, Alabama. She loves singing, scrapbooking, and all things Disney. She will happily host a movie night at a moment's notice for any friend. Her favorite part of the writing process is improving word choice and clarifying arguments. She took RHW 102 with Dr. Donnelly. 

Karina Perez

Karina Perez is an Economics major and Communications minor from Chattanooga, Tennessee. In her free time, she loves hiking, journaling and watching Derry Girls. Her favorite part of the writing process is researching and thesis development. She took RHW 102 with Dr. Peters.

Zach Pishock

Zach Pishock is an International Affairs major from Cumming, Georgia. While not reading YA fantasy novels or studying Spanish, you can find him jamming to metal music with a cup of tea in hand. His favorite parts of writing are flow, playing with structure and revision. Zach took RHW 102 with Dr. Bucher.

Anna Rinaggio

Anna Rinaggio is an English and Spanish double major from Lexington, North Carolina. In her free time, she enjoys dancing, rewatching Brooklyn 99 and reading an absurd number of books (seriously, she read 40 this past summer). Anna’s favorite parts of the writing process include fine-tuning word choice and sentence structure and creating smooth transitions. She took Honors RHW 102 with Dr. Watkins.

Monique Ruedas

Monique Ruedas is a Psychology major from Dalton, Georgia. She enjoys playing electric guitar, writing poetry, and going thrifting. Monique plans to begin working on a research project this year related to cognitive psychology. Her favorite parts of writing include editing, brainstorming and thesis development. She took RHW 102 with Mr. Kwist.

Gail Sanders

Gail Sanders is a Communications major with a film concentration and a Religion minor from Lilburn, GA. She loves folk music, playing guitar and anything to do with Lord of the Rings. Her favorite part of the writing process is creating and organizing outlines. She’ll read pretty much anything fantasy related and loves to see how ancient texts impact modern literature. She took RHW 102 with Dr. Vespa.

Meredith Stafford

Meredith Stafford is a Creative Writing major with a minor in German. When she isn’t writing or studying, her hobbies include hiking, watercolor painting, playing the flute, and watching videos of cute animals on YouTube. Her favorite part of the writing process is polishing papers and working on fine-tuning, such as adjusting sentence structure and refining word choice. 

Sarah Varnadoe

Sarah Varnadoe is a dual major in English and Digital Storytelling from Pembroke Pines, Florida. Her hobbies include watching movies, reading fantasy novels and arguing that YA books deserve more love from the world of academia. Her favorite parts of the writing process are editing, thesis development and organizing the paper. She is most familiar with the MLA and AP citation styles. She took RHW 102 with Dr. Diller.

Lily Verren

Lily Verren is a Creative Writing major with a Music minor from Decatur, GA. When she's not daydreaming about her next short story, she loves to play the bassoon in the Wind Ensemble or sit down with her next favorite novel. Her favorite part of the writing process is organizing paragraphs and reading for a consistent style. She took RHW 102 with Dr. Bucher.

Administrative Staff

Melissa King (formerly Mullins)

Melissa King is the Director of the Writing Center and a Lecturer in the English, Rhetoric and Writing Department. She has taught First Year English and various literature courses for a couple of decades all over the US and abroad in Doha, Qatar. Her current scholarly work deals with the intersection of Illustration, Translation Theory, and Fairy Tale Studies.

Luke Vines

Luke Vines is the Assistant Director of Academic Support. In this role, he teaches BCC100, and oversees the daily operations of the Academic Success Center and the Writing Center. His scholarly interests include adapting criticism so it's accessible to the general public, the relationship between the public and the academy, literary criticism composed within the long eighteenth century, and the epistolary form.
