Academic Internships

An internship is a form of experiential learning that integrates knowledge and theory learned in the classroom with practical application and skills development in a professional setting. If you plan to do an academic internship for credit, understand the requirements, follow the process and complete the necessary paperwork with a faculty internship advisor.

  • Students must be junior status (completed 60 credit hours) and have at least a 2.6 GPA to participate in an academic internship.
  • Each academic CE requires 45 hours of experience in the field with the students selected host organization (i.e. - 3 CE’s equate to 135 internship field hours)
  • Our office hosts internship workshops each semester, works with students to research ideas, provides resources/contact information, and helps students navigate the paperwork process. Students are also encouraged to talk with faculty in their major to explore other avenues for internship opportunities.
  • Students must secure a faculty academic internship advisor (does not have to be their academic advisor) to oversee the experience. This person will provide syllabus, determine academic components and learning outcomes, provide feedback, etc.
