National Book Award Finalist Speaks During Solidarity Week

The author of the critically acclaimed non-fiction book “The Undocumented Americans” will speak at 5 p.m. Sept. 19 in the Berry College Krannert Ballroom as part of Solidarity Week.

Karla Cornejo Villavicencio was one of the first undocumented students admitted to Harvard University and wrote “The Undocumented Americans” while she was on Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). The non-fiction book discusses the lives of undocumented workers across the U.S. as well as Cornejo Villavicencio’s personal experience being undocumented in America.

Cornejo Villavicencio has also written for several publications including the New York Times, The Atlantic, Vogue, Elle and Glamour. She is currently an Emerson Collective Senior Fellow and a doctoral candidate at Yale University.

The event, which is free and open to the public, is part of Berry’s annual student-led Solidarity Week. Solidarity Week is meant to acknowledge, educate, and celebrate the diversity of the Berry community.
