Reality TV Producer Speaks to Students

ROME, Ga. – The producer of reality television shows recently discussed her work and shared advice with Berry College communication students.

Jenifer Faison, a Berry alum, has produced over 20 unscripted television shows, more commonly known as reality television shows. Her credits include “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” “Judge Judy,” “Jersey Shore,” “Celebrity Wife Swap” and many more. Faison is currently co-executive producer of a new renovation show on Netflix.

“It’s exciting. It’s fun,” Faison said. “I don’t feel like I’m working!”

Faison spoke with students in the Media and Entertainment Industries class about the television industry and advised them on the best ways to pursue a career. She taught students how to pitch an idea and the components of that pitch.

“She gave us some really good information about how she got started as well as the good and difficult things about the industry,” said sophomore Johannah Huber. “I was grateful for her talking about being a freelance worker because most people don’t know about that option in this field.”

Faison also noted the importance of expecting the unexpected, especially when working with unscripted television.

“It’s all about going left, even when you think everything is going right,” said Faison, who graduated in 1992 with a communication degree.
