Berry College Hosts Mathematics Competition

Berry College recently hosted the annual 6th Grade Berry College Mathematics Contest with Jasper Middle School of Pickens County, Ga., earning first place.  

Students from 13 schools in northwest Georgia participated in this year’s competition which Berry hosts to promote and encourage mathematical excellence. Associate Professor of Mathematics Education Martha Tapia is the faculty supervisor for the competition and several  Berry math students and professors assisted with the competition.

Heritage Middle School (Catoosa) was second and Darlington School (Rome) placed third. Individual winners were Jeremy Westbrook of Jasper Middle, first place; Elan McClain of Armuchee Middle School (Floyd), second and Liam Saunders from East Central (Rome), third place. 

Participating schools included: Armuchee Middle School; Berry College Elementary and Middle School, Mount Berry, Ga.; Coosa Middle School, Floyd County, Ga.; Dade Middle School, Dads County, Ga.; Darlington School; East Central Elementary School; Heritage Middle School; Jasper Middle School; LaFayette Middle School, Walker County, Ga.; North Heights Elementary School, Rome, Ga.; Saint Mary’s School, Rome, Ga.; West Central Elementary School, Rome, Ga.; and West End Elementary School, Rome, Ga.
