“Bad, Bold, Wiser” exhibit opens at Berry

The Moon Gallery at Berry College presents “Bad, Bold, Wiser” in clay and mixed media open now through Sept. 21.

The exhibit is by ceramic sculptor and Berry Visiting Assistant Professor of Art Kelly Stevenson, wherein human figure and her response to place are realized in clay and mixed media.

The title of the exhibition was inspired by 1994 pop song, “You Gotta Be,” in which lyrics inspire the listener to be bad, bold and wiser.

Diving again into creating my own work, these were the championing words that I needed to hear in coming back to myself as an artist. All of the works in this exhibition were created in a three-month time span over the summer and re-awakened my passion not only to teach art, but to create it,” Stevenson said in her artist statement.

Stevenson’s work has been shown in a range of venues including most recently in an installation on the Yellowstone River and at art centers, commercial galleries and academic settings, such as Auburn University, Abernathy Arts Center and the Clay Studio in Philadelphia. Originally born and raised in Livingston, Mont., she went on to receive her BFA from Montana State University in Bozeman, a post baccalaureate from the University of Montana in Missoula and her MFA from Georgia State University in Atlanta.

There will be an artist reception at 5 p.m. Sept. 18. The Moon Gallery is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday and admission is free and open to the public.
