Education Dean Named to State Commission

Berry College Dean Jacqueline McDowell has been appointed by Gov. Nathan Deal to the Georgia Professional Standards Commission.

The commission regulates the certification and classification of professional employees in all Georgia public schools. Those on the board are responsible for adopting standards of performance and a code of ethics for investigators, as well as investigating allegations of misconduct and making recommendations for disciplinary action.

McDowell, dean of the Charter School of Education and Human Sciences, has worked at Berry for 25 years in various leadership roles. She is also president of the Rome-Floyd County Commission on Children and Youth and sits on the executive committee for the Association of Independent Liberal Arts Colleges for Teacher Education. McDowell earned a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in education from the University of Akron and a doctoral degree in curriculum and higher education administration from Kent State University.
