Famous Trumpeter to Perform With Berry Student Musicians

Harry Connick Jr.’s band member, Augie Haas, will perform with Berry College music students April 7 in a free public concert.

The Berry College Jazz Ensemble’s Spring Concert, “The Jazz Soul of West Side Story”, will be at 7:30 p.m. in the Ford Auditorium. Under the direction of Berry Artist-in-Residence John David, the performance will feature legendary arrangements of Bernstein’s masterpiece from the big bands of Buddy Rich and Stan Kenton. 

Haas has released four albums under his co-founded label Playtime Music: The Llama, Doing it Augie Style, Baby Jazz, and Endless. He is also the author “Build Your Range: A Practical Approach to Building Trumpet Range and Endurance.” He also plays with the esteemed Village Vanguard Orchestra in New York as well as various Broadway show orchestras.  

Born and raised in Milwaukee, he earned his Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies at Roosevelt University in Chicago. After Chicago, he attended the University of Miami for a Masters in Studio Music and Jazz and a Doctorate in Musical Arts.
