Berry Communication Students Garner National Awards

College Broadcasters, Inc. and College Media Association recently recognized Berry College’s student-run multimedia website, Viking Fusion, and Department of Communication students in three national competitions.  

“Me and My Camera,” a short film about a man’s journey through life with his camera that is cut short, was awarded Best Vodcast in the National Student Production Awards. Produced and directed by Eric Jackson, a senior communication major from Chattanooga, Tenn. and alumnus Chris Scott, the film also placed second in the Best TV Entertainment Program category for the Pinnacle Awards.

“Even though the film touches on death, I believe it focuses more so on life and those that are left behind,” said Jackson. “To have it recognized helps to show that its important to remember the stories of those who have impacted our lives.”

 

Productions from the Department of Communication’s Narrative Video Production class were also recognized. The horror short, “Transaction,” placed second in the Best General Entertainment Program category, while a public service announcement on human trafficking, “Slavery,” placed fourth in the Best Video PSA category.

“Jude,” a film about a student who is interrogated over her connections with an infamous student, placed fourth in the Best Video Special Broadcast category for the National Student Production Awards.

 

Two stories from the Visual Journalism class were recognized by the College Media Association's Pinnacle Awards: “Debbie Cunningham building a career after 50” and “Caleb Timmerman: Rock Climbing at Sandrock” placed second and third, respectively, in the Best Audio Slideshow category.  

In addition to the Pinnacle Awards, Viking Fusion was recognized in the  College Media Association's 2017 Film Festival, placing first in the Creative Film category, second in Long Documentary and Sports Video Package categories, and third in Feature Video Package.
