New Trustee Appointed at Berry

A veterinary medicine educator is the newest member of the Berry College Board of Trustees.

Dr. Sheila W. Allen is the senior accreditation advisor for the Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges. In this role, she works with the association’s Council on Education to monitor compliance with accreditation standards for 49 colleges of veterinary medicine worldwide. She also serves on the boards of Cornell University and the Georgia Aquarium.

Allen holds an undergraduate and doctorate degree from Cornell University. She also earned a Master of Science degree in veterinary clinical pathology from the University of Georgia while performing a surgical residency there. She later joined UGA’s College of Veterinary Medicine faculty in 1986 and eventually served as both the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Dean of the College.

During her tenure as Dean, Allen was active in the Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges, having served on the Board of Directors as well as the Government Affairs and Leadership Committees.  Allen was also appointed to a committee within the National Research Council of the National Academies to assess the current and future workforce needs in veterinary medicine.
