Multi-Talented Violinist to Perform at Berry

Cross-over violinist Christian Howes will perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the Berry College Ford Auditorium. 

Howes embraces many styles of music, including classical, jazz and bluegrass. From 2001-2010, he became an in-demand violinist in New York. In 2013, he was voted among the top three violinists in JazzTimes Magazine. In 2011, Howes was ranked the “Rising Star” violinist in Downbeat Critics Poll. He was nominated for the Jazz Journalists Association’s Violinist of the Year in 2011. Howes headlined six nights at Lincoln Center in 2013 and recently toured Ukraine at the invitation of the U.S. Embassy.

Howes grew up in Columbus, Ohio, where he studied violin from the age of five, performed as a soloist with the Columbus Symphony Orchestra at age 16. He later earned his bachelor’s degree in philosophy from the Ohio State University. A former associate professor at the Berklee College of Music, Howes is also the founder of the Creative Strings Workshop at Berry College.
