Art exhibit beautifies the familiar

Berry College Fine Arts will present the first art exhibition of the academic year, “Quotidian,” beginning Monday in the Moon Gallery.

“Quotidian” includes work from Michael Marks, Raymond Yeager, Susan Loftin, Edward Ramsay-Morin and Mary and Dan DeFoor. Each featured artist alludes to the theme of the “everyday” in their work, some though traditional approaches like oil paintings, while others use a more contemporary method like iPad® paintings. The gallery is open to the public Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. with the exhibit ending Sept. 22.

There will be three artist talks during the exhibition. Berry alumni Mary and Dan DeFoor will be speaking about their collaborative work in ceramics at 5 p.m.  Aug. 29. Marks will discuss his interest in “mining virtual environments” at 5 p.m. Sept. 15 and on Sept. 20 at 11 a.m., Loftin will speak on her work, ranging from intimately scaled ceramics to room-sized installations.

All events are free and open to the public.
