Berry professor to present research overseas

Berry College History Professor Matthew Stanard will present research in Lisbon, Portugal, this summer.

Stanard will speak at an exhibit on a historical “Panorama of the Congo” at the Museu Nacional de História Natural e da Ciência at the Universidade de Lisboa, translated as the National Museum of Natural History and Science.

In December 2023, Stanard gave two presentations at the Université catholique de Louvain in Belgium. Last March, he traveled to Rome, Italy, to give a presentation at the Conciliare Project (CONfidently Changing coLonIAl heRitagE) at Sapienza Università di Roma.

Stanard is a member of the external advisory board of the Conciliare group, which is a three-year European consortium project on Europe’s colonial heritage funded by an EU Commission grant. In addition, Stanard currently serves as vice president of the French Colonial Historical Society.
